The group was formed in October 1992 when the 6545th Test Group was redesignated with the elimination of the 6 prefix, with the 6514th TS likewise changing designation to the 514th TS. The unit was activated at Hill AFB for drone development work as part of the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB. The group conducts tests of drone and RPV assets and has day-to-day control of the Utah Test and Training Range where evaluation and development of remotely-piloted vehicles and cruise missiles is undertaken.
